Sound Design II

Imagination Post Project
The requirements for this project are to develop any 3 of the following sci-fi effects using all the resources available to you. This means layering together sound samples of varying origin to create the following new samples. Layering is most important in this project. There is no maxium amount of layers for each Sci-Fi sound you create but there is a minimum of 8 layers needed for each sound. There is also a requirement of at least 1 home recorded sound be present in each Sci Fi sample you create . Hand in your session with all sounds playing back in the same order they appear in the list below. Please print out all effects and Reason/Reaktor patches that are used for your SPFX.
Aliens using Skype
An assigment for the Sound Design II class. We were asked to create just a “communicator device” thats turns on and off whatever, but I decided to create this kind of Star Wars chat thing.
I used my voice for the 4 characters you listen on this.
Made it on 4 hours maybe more… It’s just a pre-design, nothing’s mixed, no volume automation, nor anything. But here it goes so that you people listen to it. I’ll post a new version later. For now on, I’m going to bed. Hope you like it.
And obviously is not finished. I’m still missing a lot of stuff, but for a rough demo, sounds good. “I think”.
Ext. Background (BG)
BG ASSIGNMENT CRITERIA
All the files you listen here were placed independently.
And also every sound you listen was recorded independently (not by me). I only placed the files and make it “sound” nice.
And one more thing. Audio is not panned caused its supposed to be delivered to the mixer, its his job, not mine.
• Video Clip: Rampage Term 3 BG ASSIGNMENT
• must be delivered as a session and not as a bounced audio file
• must adhere to VFS Sound Design Production Specs…ie 2 pop, frame rate, pic start etc.
• must contain at least one unique bounced audio file per location, region must have “BNC” as part of it’s file name.
• must contain your source regions for any audio that you bounce down, region must have “source” as part of it’s region name. Source audio should be on your work tracks and at the same time code as “BNC” file
• cut bg’s for the 4 locations specified….int and ext of auto shop, plus int and ext of restaurant
• must include one of your own recordings for each location, region must have student’s name as part of it’s file name. Don’t use the same recording for more than one location.
• must have 2 frame linear fades at scene changes and time cuts as shown and explained in class
• must be checkerboarded properly
• no obvious loops
• must contain stereo and center BG’s… two mono audio files placed on a stereo track is NOT a stereo audio file.
• must use VFS template
• work tracks must be set to inactive
• no plug ins, guide track, video track, or master fader
• regions must have volume automation
• pay attention to detail, it’s not quite as straight forward as it first appears.
• quality of sound

Robot Destruction II (Improved)
Create a “soundscape” in which a big fireball coming from the sky hits a robot and destroys it. Thats all. And also, takes quite a while.
Awesome assignment.
